My educational background is in Politics and Economics but technology has always been my passion. I've been tinkering and playing with anything that needs power since I was a teenager I've always been a creative person: building lego (perhaps a bit beyond my age) and playing a variety of musical instruments. To be able to start with a blank page and within a matter of moments have something is a skill I hold very dear to my heart. Programming was the next logical step. I want to be at the fore-front of technology. I'm the kind of person who will give new technology a go...just because I want to.
I see myself working in a fast-paced, creative company with like-minded people, looking to make the best products possible, rather than just focussing on the bottom line. I want to be able to take real pride in the things that I make.
Why I Got Into Web Development
I want to continue to take my ideas and turn them into realities. This course will give me a broad range of skills to do just that. Moreover, having others to interact with on a day to day basis, we can learn together and encourage each other. I have a little bit of experience coding python (specifically for weather applications) with a friend and it is a very rewarding experience.
I developed my own python thermostat with a raspberry pi. The Pi hosted a web interface for setting the target temperature and the targets over time. And a MySQL back-end that retains the current and target temperatures. I was the sole developer on the project and it was very inspiring to have an idea and follow it through to creation all alone. The Pi now sits in my house and has been working for that last few months without touching it. Although I had to write a small startup script to get it to restart if we have a power-cut.
