Are you a medic who wants to leverage your expertise in a consultancy career?

Do you have an idea for a health tech startup that you want to get off the ground? Do you want to be able to manage other developers? Or do you want to clock up some CPD points in a new discipline?

This course will give you a solid foundation in full-stack web development, covering CSS, Java and HTML coding skills, enough to get a basic website or app up and running. We Got Coders has teamed up with Medic Footprints to bring you a comprehensive package of skills in one course, enabling you to build a career in health tech or to get your project or startup off to a great start.

In fact, the course includes three build projects:

  1. An interactive body key where you highlight areas of the body and through a series of yes/no questions diagnose to critical ailments (like this example)
  2. An time-saving app that poses questions to a patient in order to populate a referral letter to a specialist
  3. A positive reinforcement game that promotes mental health through positive and negative word association

You’ll also learn all about SEO, social media and content marketing, which are invaluable skills in any profession today.

Blended online and in-person learning

As soon as you register you’ll get access to the full e-learning syllabus online with the learning materials, and supporting lessons. You can work through this content at your own pace, and at your own time; working around your busy schedule. The course is structured in two sections – one online, one workshop – and it’s completely up to you how you tackle them. There’s no time limit, so you can fit it in around your commitments.

Once you're ready, as part of the course fee you can attend up to three in-person workshops with our industry experts, which include a mixture of lectures and hands-on learning, as well as supervised assistance on real-world programming problems and marketing case studies.

To give you an idea, the online parts might take a beginner between 50-80 hours. The workshop lasts two days and happen every fortnight at our London office or HQ in rural Hertfordshire.

Outline

Running every two weeks, our 2-day workshops cover the essentials of web development and how to build your career in health tech.

Day one

At the end of this workshop you’ll have built a working site, app or game. We'll cover each app on rotation, so that you can attempt different applications in each session.

  1. Identify the various technologies required to create web applications
  2. Learn how HTML / CSS are used to create webpages
  3. Learn how to persist user sign ups using Ruby and SQL
  4. Learn how JavaScript can make interactive elements come to life

You will need to bring a laptop with you to the event. You won’t need to install anything specific as we'll go over that in the session; but we recommend installing Google chrome and having Sublime text editor for writing code.

Day two

At the end of this workshop you’ll understand how an effective digital marketing and social media strategy can help you promote yourself, your digital product and build a community.

Your Instructors

Dan Garland

Dan Garland has thirteen years experience in creating web applications. After graduating from the University of Bristol with a Computer Science degree, he went on to found Ruby consultancy We Got Coders, specialising in full-stack web development, working with start-ups and agencies.

He has been teaching web development for three years as the lead instructor at We Got Coders. Previously he has taught in New York with General Assembly and has spoken at several coding workshops and meet-ups in London.

Saija Mahon
Founder and CEO of Mahon Digital, Saija, has worked in the digital industry for over 13 years. "I feel that the world of Search Marketing is my second home. I’ve specialised in PPC (pay per click) since the start of my journey, and got into the SEO (search engine optimisation) and Social Media optimisation (SMO) scene, which I’m very passionate about as well. These days you’ll often find me working remotely in between client meetings…the life of an entrepreneur never stops!"

Price

The workshop is available as either single day at £500 (including VAT) per day, or £ 800 (including VAT) for the two days together. The price includes tea and coffee, and a buffet lunch.

Payment must be made in advance. After you have made your booking, we will send you an invoice payable by bank transfer or credit card.

If you are not satisfied with your workshop, we will make a no quibbles refund.
